First Visit Expectations for Children

To ensure your kids grow up with a healthy respect for their teeth and a solid foundation in preventative dental care, Dr. Ben Curtis recommends bringing your kids in for an exam within six months of their first tooth appearing — or no later than their first birthday.

Early initial visits are essential because they can prevent a lot of bad oral habits and unnecessary dental conditions.

First Visit FUN!

Your child’s first appointment with Dr. Ben Curtis begins with a tour of our state-of-the-art office that ends with you and your child being taken to one of our private, child-friendly exam rooms. We can’t wait to meet you and to introduce your child to the dental office and Dr. Ben Curtis. At Curtis Kids Dentistry, parents are always welcome to be with their child throughout their check-ups and treatments. Our dental check-up visits normally consist of an exam, cleaning, and fluoride.

During the exam, Dr. Ben Curtis examines existing teeth, your child’s overall bite, gums, jaw structure, and oral tissues, looking for any potential problems and assessing age-appropriate growth and development. Dr. Curtis loves to interact with kids and encourages your child to ask any questions they would like. It’s important to start their relationship off on the right foot and take the time to get comfortable with each other.

After your child’s exam, Dr. Ben Curtis will answer any questions you may have and discuss any treatment recommendations.

The Difference between a Pediatric Dentist and a Regular Dentist

Board-certified pediatric dentists, such as our Dr. Ben Curtis, have additional years of training after dental school specifically related to working with children. They have training in children’s behavior, facial growth, dental development, and treatments of children’s teeth and soft tissues.

Additionally, pediatric dentists receive extensive training in techniques and procedures to help children have their treatment needs completed in a safe and efficient manner.
